Change the way you choose random opponents based on the level of the player putting pupils against geniuses is a bit unfair
When I first started playing, I felt the same way about being matched with someone at a much higher level til Inoticed the levels are only about how long the player has played - has nothing to do with how good they are. Just play the game a little longer and you'll see!

No it's not - it's a learning opportunity.
You don't have to be a word 'genius' to rise through the levels quickly.
The Help section contains strategy tips, and there are websites that teach some more, on how to use word hooks more effectively to boost your scores, even for simple words with one to three letters ( like A or THE or EAR or SUN etc depending on the layout).
Learning strategy is what takes time, for many people, as they have jobs and families etc. Opponents often live in opposite hemispheres.
If you want to get even better scores you can learn to use the HINT facility well because it helps to see the spaces where a good word should be. (I don't use it because my brain doesn't work best that way, and I still get good scores, and win enough)
New players yet to attain level 10 should only play against players also of sub 10 level ; after that any level that's randomly assigned.
Further to this any game which a below level 10 (or 5) does not complete in 24 hours should be automatically resigned and win accrues to opposition. So many times they start a game, realize it isn't for them and vanish and one has to wait at least a week for that wasted game board to be available again.
Thanks, awesome game, great we have input.
